The Parish

St Mary Hoo is a small hamlet north of Rochester on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent, between the Rivers Thames and Medway. It is mostly agricultural land with 238^ residents, 192 electors and 94 properties in 914.35^ Hectares. (^= data from 2011 Census.) St Mary Hoo has a Parish Council that meets alternate months and the public is encouraged to attend public meetings.

Our Parish Council exists to represent its residents. We seek to enhance the quality of life in the hamlet by preserving that historically important while developing that which could improve the services we receive. Medway Council is the unitary authority for our area. The monthly Village Voices covers events and other St Mary Hoo area news.

The North Kent Marshes

The North Kent Marshes Internal Drainage Board was formed in 2016 and is administered by Medway Council. It covers areas in and around the Hoo Peninsula, including Allhallows, St Mary’s Hoo, Cooling, Cliffe, and areas within Gravesend, including Shorne Marshes, Filborough Marshes and Westcourt Marshes. Internal Drainage Boards (IDB’s) are public bodies that manage water levels in some areas where it is considered there is a special need for drainage.
