Following your feedback over the last year, we have now developed the design code for the regeneration of the centre of Chatham.
The code provides a collection of design principles for the area, which includes things like specifying local building materials and proposing design options for the layout of streets.
If you live, work, visit or study in Chatham, we want to hear from you. This is a once in a generation opportunity to positively shape the design of Medway’s emerging city centre. The code will help shape the future of Chatham, including how new developments should look, active travel facilities, more green spaces, improved seating areas and new public spaces to help make Chatham a better place to live, work, learn and visit.
340 people responded to our second consultation that took place in June and July this summer. More than two thirds of respondents were in favour of the regeneration proposals to improve the centre of Chatham. This included 87 per cent of responders being in favour of improving Chatham Waterfront, including the Riverwalk, Riverside Gardens and listing buildings and landmarks. The vision would see more public events, water-based activities and a public square with food and drink facilities.
All of the comments received have been taken on board to help develop our new design code.
